...the Adventure BeginsEach day, you’ll travel by off-road vehicle deep into the desert, following old mining routes and hidden trails that few people ever get to experience. These aren’t paved paths or tourist stops; they’re raw, real, and wildly beautiful. Along the way, you’ll explore sites like Swansea Ghost Town, scattered with rusted mining relics and crumbling stone structures that whisper stories of the past. Other routes lead to remote rock art sites, forgotten camps, and surprising desert wonders tucked into the canyons and washes. And above it all? Your drone. We’ll guide you through safe, legal drone operations in these wide-open areas so you can document, experiment, and fly with freedom. Whether you’re practicing techniques, capturing cinematic footage, or just enjoying the feeling of flight, this is your space to grow and explore.

✨ Why This Trip is Different

Thursday – Welcome to Basecamp Arrive, settle in, and get to know the other adventurers with a campfire meet-and-greet. We’ll go over the plan and kick off the weekend with laughter and connection under a sky full of stars. Friday – Explore Swansea Ghost Town Hop in your off-road vehicle (or ride with us!) as we head out to the historic Swansea Ghost Town, where the desert tells stories through rusted mining equipment and weathered stone ruins. Drone flights to capture stunning aerial shots as we explore this unforgettable site. Saturday – Hidden Treasures &amp; Flying Fun Venture deeper into the desert to uncover abandoned mining camps, ancient rock art, and hidden desert gems. Fly your drone, learn new filming techniques, or just take in the wild beauty of the landscape. Wrap up with a night of western-style dinner, stargazing, and fireside camaraderie. Sunday – Reflect &amp; Recharge Ease into the day with coffee and quiet conversation before packing up and heading home. Refreshed, reconnected, and filled with memories.

Whether you’re a seasoned drone pilot or brand new to flying, you’ll capture it all from breathtaking aerial views. Evenings bring western-style meals, star-filled skies, and campfire camaraderie that turns fellow adventurers into lifelong friends.

Participants should bring the following

This adventure involves moderate physical activity and is best suited for those comfortable with outdoor exploration. Participants will travel across rough, off-road terrain in an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to explore on foot through uneven desert ground, climbing short inclines and walking through sandy, rocky, and dusty areas. Some hiking is necessary to fully access and experience the ghost towns, abandoned mining sites, and hidden desert features. Be prepared for a true desert environment—dry, rugged, and full of adventure.

Ken and Desi Ekstein are the adventurous duo behind On The Go Outdoor Adventures, desert escape, combining decades of hands-on experience, historical knowledge, and a passion for off-grid exploration to create unforgettable getaways in the American Southwest. Ken brings deep expertise as a logistics repair technician, with a strong background in mining history, desert navigation, and vehicle operations. His knowledge of abandoned mining locations, equipment, and Arizona’s rugged backcountry makes each off-road excursion both educational and exhilarating. As your trail leader, Ken ensures the ride is as smooth and safe as it is thrilling. Desi—known throughout the drone industry as Drone Diva Desi—is a nationally recognized drone educator, FAA-certified pilot, and history preservationist. With her guidance, guests gain a bird’s-eye view of forgotten landscapes, capturing breathtaking aerial imagery and learning the stories that shaped the desert’s past. Together, Ken and Desi bring not only a love for off-roading, history, and adventure but also a strong foundation in event planning, ensuring that every trip is well-organized, fun-filled, and memorable.
